Oculus made a quick announcement today about the upcoming 128GB version, also confirming that they will be replacing the former 64GB one. The Quest 2 doesn’t have expandable storage space, so getting a model with more internal storage is the only way to go if you find yourself needing more space. It seems to be a pretty decent new deal for anyone considering getting a first VR headset. Katharine praised the initial run of the new headset in her Oculus Quest 2 review, calling it a great intro to VR even with the original 64GB storage space....

Haven’s a dense, dingy industrial hangout and from the screenshots, it certainly looks like it: there’s a big crane, some factories, and some trucks, all coated in a thick brown smog. As a lapsed PUBG player, the miserable aesthetic isn’t filling me with desire to get stuck back in. I suppose it being a close knit 32-player affair will get me into the action a bit quicker, which is what my impatient self is after, but Haven certainly hasn’t got the appeal of Paramo (an entire volcano) or Sanhok (a lush jungle)....

VGC say they’ve been told by their shadowy sources that the game is several years away, possibly looking at 2024. Supposedly the departure of creative director Simon Woodroffe led to a big ol’ overhaul of its direction, and the design has basically been “restarted from scratch”. And as VGC noted, VentureBeat’s Jeff Grub relayed similar gossip in a video podcast over the weekend. Grubb said “they restarted production on that game, they rebooted it” and he’d heard it would come in 2023....

Good grief, though. Nate wasn’t kidding about the birds on this one. Ring Of Pain is a creepy roguelite styled in the vein of games like Slay The Spire or Monster Train. Placed in a sort of pseudo-first-person perspective, you trudge through the grim lair of this malevolent canary, looting new items to build up a loadout you can use to escape this wretched place. Spoons, swords, whatever works really....

Robocop: Rogue City was announced by Nacon, from the developers of Terminator: Resistance, a game I did not enjoy. It won’t be out until 2023, and though it’ll be based on the first three movies in the series, it’ll also be a new story. Nacon said: “Nacon and Teyon will work with MGM to develop an authentic RoboCop game experience that is faithful to the franchise’s DNA, while immersing gamers in an original story that enables them to play as none other than RoboCop himself....

So yeah, we dropped the ball on Rock Of Ages 3. But c’mon, what were you expecting? Cubes? If you’ve been living under a rock (sorry) for the last nine years, let me get you up to speed. Rock Of Ages is like if someone turned the Gloucester cheese-rolling festival into a tower defence, by way of some delightfully crude Monty Python-esque cut-out gaffs. ACE Team haven’t taken a wrecking ball to the formula for this third entry....

In fact, I think I could take her Portal revisited intro, replace every instance of “Portal” with “Minecraft”, and call it a day. It’s Minecraft! Of course it was game of the year. It was arguably the game of the decade, an absolute all timer. I won’t spend many words explaining why it is good, because those words would be redundant fodder, like the bloke fighting a soaring dragon by poking the ground under his feet with a sword....
